IFPSW’s primary project in this early stage of its existence is to support humanitarians with psychosocial backgrounds through finance and expertise. We began by supporting Psys D'Afrique (PDA) in Congo Brazzaville. PDA was initially managed by former counselors from the Nobel Peace Prize winning organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in the Congo. Its launch at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) compound was attended by MSF, the UNDP, UNICEF, and the Congolese Ministry of Health among others. PDA has been supported financially or via expertise by the IFPSW, MSF and the Congolese Ministry of Health, as well as the Evangelical, Catholic and Pentecostal Churches in the Congo. During a recent trip by the IFSPW,  the group was in the process of getting further funding from the EU, the US Embassy and Medecins d'Afrique.

This 4x4 attempts to plough through the usual rough terrain negotiated by psychologists and social workers in our primary project in the Congo. They bring hope and comfort to the most forgotten, and often the most traumatized war victims.  Typical "clients" include gang rape victims and former child soldiers/rebels who are now orphans and outcasts.

Below: an outside view of "the orphanage". No school for these kids today.
